Hauppague - (WALK) County officials in Suffolk are sounding an alarm about dangerously low supplies of blood, and urging eligible donors to help save the lives of our neighbors.
At the outset of this weekend, New York Blood Center warned of a less-than one-day supply of O-Negative blood, the "universal donor" type, which can be transfused into anyone in trauma situations, when there is no time for blood-type matching. County officials in Suffolk are taking up the cause.
"I encourage anyone who is capable of giving blood to please do so as soon as possible," said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. "Suffolk County employees are very active in donating blood and I am asking for all Suffolk County residents to consider this life saving opportunty."
