Mt. Sinai - (WALK) The Coram mom, struck down by a hit and run driver in Mount Sinai last month died of her injuries Wednesday, according to Suffolk police.
Karen Benjamin, 56, was a physician's assistant and mother of two. She was jogging on Canal Road in Mount Sinai on Sunday, June 23, when she was struck at about 11:00 a.m.
Benjamin was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she underwent brain surgery that night. She also sustained extensive injuries to her head, legs, and arms, according to her daughter.
Detectives of the Suffok Police Vehicular Crims Unit continue their investigation, and are looking for the driver of a light, tan-colored car who left the scene, traveling west on Canal Road.
