Massapequa (WALK) - An accused shoplifter left her kids to fend for themselves yesterday while she committed her crime, according to police.
A Mastic woman who was allegedly caught shoplifting at the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa on Tuesday afternoon is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police allegedly found the suspect's two children in her car in the mall parking lot. One of the kids is only 15 months old, while the other is 10 years old.
Police say Coshonda Vanderhall, 31, slugged a security guard who caught her shoplifting at the JC Penney store in the mall. She allegedly was trying to walk out with over $270 worth of clothing.
The security guard was treated for her injuries at a local hospital. The children were not hurt and are now in the care of a relative.
Vanderhall is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Hempstead.
