Lots of big Marvel announcements over the weekend at Comic Con in San Diego:

-Natalie Portman will play a female Thor in “Thor: Love and Thunder.” The fourth movie in the series, also starring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, opens November 5th, 2021.

-Marvel’s “The Eternals” movie will star Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek, with a November 6th, 2020 release date.

-“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” starring Simu Liu as Marvel’s first Chinese superhero, comes out February 2021.

-A new “Fantastic Four” movie is in the works, but no other details were given.

-The “Black Panther” sequel, a “Hawkeye” stand-alone movie, and the stand-alone “Black Widow” movie are all on the way as part of Phase Four.

Meantime, “Avengers: Endgame” officially became the highest grossing movie of all time at the global box office.  Earning $2.79 billion, it has surpassed “Avatar,” which was the top for ten years.

“The Lion King” dominated the box office with the best July opening in history.

  1. “The Lion King” – $185 million
  2. “Spider-Man: Far From Home” – $21 million
  3. “Toy Story 4” – $14.6 million
  4. “Crawl” – $6 million
  5. “Yesterday” – $5.1 million

Ed Sheeran’s new album “No. 6 Collaborations Project” has debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart.  It was the largest week of the year for a pop album by a male artist and the biggest week in total album sales by a solo male artist since Shawn Mendes’ self titled album last June 2018.  Meantime, there’s apparently a huge statue of Ed in Russia that he visited and signed this past weekend!

Eddie Murphy is reportedly in talks with Netflix to do his first stand-up in 30 years.  They are working on a $70 million deal for a series of comedy specials.

Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) are engaged after a couple of years of dating.  They first met in 2016 on the set of the film, “Mary Magdalene.”
