ABC has renewed “American Idol” for a third season. No word yet on if Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will be back as judges. This season’s finale airs Sunday with performances by former Idols Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert. Weezer, Dan + Shay, Jay-Z, Kool & the Gang, and Kane Brown will also perform, as well as the judges.

The USA Network is rebooting “The Biggest Loser.” The show will take a more holistic approach and concentrate more on general wellness, while retaining the show’s competition format. It’s set to debut in 2020.
Fox has cancelled “Empire.” The network announced that the upcoming sixth season of show will be its last. Jussie Smollett will not return for season six, but apparently viewership was way down before his scandal.
